• The Departure: Vienna

    By Lotuff Leather

Named the most livable city in the world for seven years in a row, Vienna is one of those rare places that really has everything and more to offer. It boasts architecture from a wide variety of styles, has an incredibly rich arts culture, and is the birthplace of some amazing food- basically, this Austrian city practically begs to be visited at least once in a lifetime.

Start at the Baroque masterpiece that is Karlskirche. A majestic 18th-century rococo church dominated by characteristic gold and marble accents, it’s truly worth marveling at and appreciating in its entirety. Next on the list is the Belvedere, the duo of palaces that play host to Austrian art and some truly stunning grounds. Its museums possess, most notably, many of Gustav Klimt’s works from his “golden phase” and beyond. So, in other words, prepare to be impressed by these two spots.

Trade out all that gold for something a little darker (but no less decadent) next at Zotter, a chocolate factory that uses all eco-friendly, fair trade practices to produce their 400+ “bean-to-bar” varieties. Take a tour of the family-owned factory, or just go straight to sampling Zotter’s unique flavor offerings, like balsamic orange or redcurrant chili.

Then, go back to metallics though a beer tasting at Gold Fassl Magazin. The most opulent of the five bar spaces found in the original 19th-century Ottakringer brewery, Gold Fassl has seven different house-brewed varieties on tap. Art, chocolate, and beer? It’s no wonder so many people are happy to call Vienna home.

A city with such vibrant sights necessitates a bag that's just as lively- tote along our multi-hued Arc Shoulder Bag and you'll be good to go wherever the day takes you.
